Tottenham told to pull Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg U-turn – ‘I worry for Spurs’, Agbonlahor says
Gabby Agbonlahor has insisted Tottenham should fight to keep hold of “all-round” midfielder Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg amid interest from Atletico Madrid.
The former Aston Villa striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, claimed he will “worry” about Spurs if they lose the 27-year-old – insisting they need to sign additional midfielders.
According to the Daily Mail (30 June), Tottenham are willing to offload Hojbjerg this summer amid interest from Spanish giants Atletico Madrid.
The report claims there are concerns the Denmark international will not fit into the “free-flowing” style under new Spurs boss Ange Postecoglou.
Hojbjerg, who was a favourite under Jose Mourinho and Antonio Conte, has two years remaining on his contract at the north London club.
He has been a mainstay since joining from Southampton in 2020 and made 44 appearances across all competitions last term – scoring five goals and providing seven assists.
The impressive Rodrigo Bentancur suffered a cruciate ligament rupture last season and is expected to be absent until the winter.
Agbonlahor told Football Insider’s Ewan Kingsbury: “I really like Hojbjerg.
“He’s got an engine – he’s an all-round midfielder. He can do everything.
“I worry for Spurs. If they get rid of him, they’re down to Bentancur and Bissouma. One has had injury problems, and the other wasn’t great last season.

“Maybe Ange has got players in mind, but I’d definitely keep Hojbjerg.
“They need to keep him and add more midfielders on top of him.”
