Tottenham told by expert to complete summer signing as Caoimhin Kelleher cited – ‘I think they will’

Paul Robinson has urged Tottenham to sign a better second-choice goalkeeper in the summer as Pierluigi Gollini “isn’t the answer”.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-White Hart Lane number one said Spurs need a goalkeeper of similar quality to Liverpool understudy Caoimhin Kelleher.

Gollini has made just three appearances since the appointment of Antonio Conte on 2 November.

The 26-year-old joined Spurs on a season-long loan deal from Atalanta last July.

Hugo Lloris is firmly the undisputed number one in north London.

The France captain put pen to paper on a new two-and-a-half year contract in January.

Despite this, Robinson believes Spurs need to put a succession plan in place for Lloris this summer.

“Tottenham need strength in depth behind Lloris and they don’t have it,” he told Football Insider‘s Dylan Childs.

“They need another top goalkeeper if they want to challenge for trophies. They need a strong number one/two to challenge Lloris for his place and to keep him on his toes.

“At the moment, Conte doesn’t have the option of taking him out of the team. Gollini is not the answer.

“Lloris is not going to go on forever and they need a succession plan. Look at Liverpool, they have Kelleher behind Alisson. Spurs need a goalkeeper like that behind Lloris.

“All the clubs at the top of the table carry two top goalkeepers and that is something Spurs have to address in the summer and I think they will.”
