Tottenham told to sign ‘creative’ midfielder after what Hutton has seen
Alan Hutton has told Tottenham to sign a “creative” attacking midfielder.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Spurs and Aston Villa right-back said for Antonio Conte’s system to work he needs more creativity in the midfield.
The Lilywhites are without a win in their last three games in the league and the Champions League and have only scored two goals in those outings.
Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg and Cristian Romero returned to the starting XI for the 1-1 draw with Sporting Lisbon on Wednesday (27 October) after a spell out with injuries.
Conte is still missing Richarlison and Dejan Kulusevski from the attacking line.
As quoted by Football.London (26 October) Conte said the duos’ return date is still unclear but Kulusevski could be out until after the World Cup break.
Sources told Football Insider last month (29 September) that Maddison would jump at the chance to join Tottenham as he enters the final 18 months of his Leicester City contract and eyes a move to a Champions League club.
Hutton insisted Spurs need to sign an attacking midfielder with a creative spark.
“I have always thought that they are missing that creativity in midfield,” he told Football Insider.

“If you want to go the 3-5-2 system that he has done in recent weeks and he wants to be defensive, have two defensive players. Play Hjobjerg and [Rodrigo] Bentancur but have one who is that creative person, that link between the midfield and the attack.
“I think that is what is going to help them develop as a team. I am not going to sit here and tell Conte what to do but it is just from an outsider looking in, that looks what they miss, something to link up that play.“
