Tottenham told to U-turn on James Garner after source’s reveal – Robinson

Paul Robinson has told Tottenham to think twice before making a bid for Man United midfielder James Garner.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former White Hart Lane number one suggested Spurs should not sign players unwanted at Old Trafford.

Sources told this site (17 August) that Man United are willing to listen to offers of £14-15million for Garner this summer.

The 21-year-old has been an unused substitute in the Red Devils’ first two games of the Premier League season.

According to the Manchester Evening News‘ Samuel Luckhurst (18 August), Southampton are leading the race for the midfielder’s signature.

Tottenham and Everton are also said to be interested in the England under-21 international.

When asked by Football Insider if Garner would be a welcome addition to Antonio Conte’s side, Robinson said: “Not for me.

“James Garner is a player for the future.

“We have seen Man United’s recruitment of late, it has been very poor. Garner cannot get into their team even though they are not blessed in the midfield department.

“If they don’t want Garner, why should Tottenham? Man United are behind Spurs at the moment so it would not be a shop I was looking in.

“I can’t see that one happening.”
