Tottenham told to U-turn on Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg sale after source’s reveal – expert

Tottenham should keep hold of Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg and add defensive reinforcements.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, former Spurs defender Alan Hutton would like to see Hojbjerg stay at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

On Friday (4 August), Football Insider revealed that the Lilywhites won’t sanction an exit for the 27-year-old before signing a replacement.

The midfielder has been closing in on a move to La Liga giants Atletico Madrid despite being a nailed on starter in London in previous seasons.

The sale of Hojbjerg would bring in a fee well in excess of £25million.

Hojbjerg has racked up 145 appearances for Spurs since joining from Southampton in 2020.

The Denmark international’s current contract runs until 2025 which nets him a reported wage of £100,000-a-week.

When asked if now is the right time for Hojbjerg to move on, Hutton told Football Insider:I think he has been one of the better players in recent seasons for Tottenham.

There is a lot surrounding him at this moment in time about moving on.

I think they have got decent depth in the middle of the pitch but Ange [Postecoglou] would maybe look to bring somebody in. I think defensively is more where the problems lie.

I would like them to keep Hojbjerg and work out the defence.

But if the player wants to leave Ange will not stand in his way and hopefully then they can get some money to reinvest into the squad.

In other news, Tottenham expect to complete six more signings in stunning late blizzard.
