Tottenham told to U-turn on Sofyan Amrabat transfer plan after update – Robinson

Paul Robinson has heaped praise on Fiorentina midfielder Sofyan Amrabat amid reported interest from Tottenham.

However, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Spurs and England number one urged Antonio Conte’s side not to sign the 26-year-old in January and instead wait until the summer.

Amrabat has been one of the standout performers at the World Cup, helping Morocco reach the semi-finals.

According to Foot Mercato (7 December), Spurs are interested in signing Amrabat in the January transfer window.

Antonio Conte is said be pushing to sign the centre-midfielder behind closed doors.

Amrabat has just over 18 months remaining on his contract with Fiorentina.

When asked by Football Insider if Amrabat would be a welcome addition at Spurs, Robinson said: “I’ve been impressed with Amrabat.

“He has been brilliant throughout the World Cup. There is always a few players who surprise and shine at major tournaments. It is difficult to sign a player off the back of a few performances in the World Cup though. It would be a risk if Spurs signed him.

“If Amrabat can continue this form when he returns to Italy then maybe it would be worthwhile trying to sign him next summer. I’m not sure you can make a signing off the back of three or four games.

“Don’t get me wrong, plenty of clubs have done it in the past but it should be about how a player plays over a consistent period of time.”
