Tottenham transfer news: Pundit excited after Paratici update on signing Tino Livramento

It will take “stupid money” for Tottenham to lure Tino Livramento away from Southampton.

That’s according to former West Ham hitman Frank McAvennie, speaking exclusively to Football Insider after an update on the 19-year-old’s future.

This site revealed on Thursday (3 March) that Tottenham have set their sights on signing the former Chelsea full-back this summer – and have already made preliminary moves.

The Athletic claimed in September 2021 that the Blues have a £38million buy-back option which becomes active in 2023.

As per Calciomercato (26 February), Man United are also keen on a move for the Southampton star.

McAvennie insists Tottenham need new defenders and admitted Livramento fits the bill.

“Tottenham have needed new defenders for years,” McAvennie told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.

“Everybody knows it. The defending has been terrible for years.

“You have Harry Kane at the other end of the pitch trying to score as many as possible because he knows his defenders will concede.

“It doesn’t surprise me at all if they are looking at getting some new defenders in.

“This guy fits the profile for what the club will want in a new player.

“Targeting a young English talent is always a good move but it will cost stupid money for that reason.”

Livramento joined Southampton in the summer of 2021 after failing to agree a new deal with Chelsea.

He has so far made 25 appearances in all competitions this season.

In other news, defender “100%” wants to quit Tottenham permanently with a new club already lined up.
