Tottenham player ratings v West Ham: Maligned midfielder impresses as striker shines

Serge Aurier – 7

Returning to the side after being benched against Barnsley, he made an impressive start to the clash against West Ham, constantly posing an attacking outlet for his team mates, while demonstrating his defensive capabilities too.

He rescued Jan Vertonghen after the Belgian’s mistake had allowed Marko Arnautovic through on goal, but the Ivory Coast international’s last ditch tackle prevented the Austrian from testing Hugo Lloris.

However, after conceding several fouls he found himself in the referee’s book, and a needless lunge on Andy Carroll saw him pick up a deserved second yellow and subsequently was sent off with 20 minutes to play.

A disappointing end to a bright performance, and he will face a fight to return to the starting XI after suspension.
