Tottenham vs Brentford ref watch: Three decisions that Rob Jones got wrong
Thomas Frank reigned supreme over his former club as Tottenham beat Brentford 2-0 in North London to move up to eighth in the Premier League.
Tottenham struck first in the 25th minute as Pedro Porro released Xavi Simons down the right flank and he crossed for Richarlison to lash the ball home with the goal gaping.
Xavi Simons doubled the hosts’ lead before the break as he won the ball on the halfway line and breezed forward past Brentford‘s defenders before slotting past Caoimhin Kelleher.
Mohammed Kudus thought he had extended Spurs’ lead late on but his goal was ruled out for offside, with Thomas Frank‘s side going on to win 2-0 as he got one over his old side.
Referee Rob Jones took charge of the afternoon’s events in North London, and Football Insider have picked out three decisions that we felt he got wrong throughout the clash.

Jones got two corner decisions involving Michael Kayode wrong in quick succession
This list technically includes four decisions that Jones got wrong, with these two corner calls put into one due to their similar nature and how quickly they happened early on in the game.
The first came in the ninth minute as Richarlison broke down the left-hand side and played the ball against Michael Kayode for a Tottenham corner, but Jones pointed to Kelleher’s six-yard box instead.

Long-throw specialist Kayode was able to get forward down the same flank following the goal-kick, and he then won a corner two minutes later despite his cross clearly not touching Randal Kolo-Muani before it went out of play.
Cristian Romero’s rash tackle deserved a red card
Tottenham captain Cristian Romero has been linked to some top clubs due to his stellar Premier League form, and it is clear to why with each week that he puts in a top performance.
This clash was no different as he kept the Bees out with relative ease, but he was lucky to even be on the pitch after the 31st minute as he lunged into the back of Igor Thiago.
Jones booked the Argentine defender for the tackle as Brentford players surrounded him to demand a harsher punishment, and they certainly had a point given the lateness and ferocity of the challenge.
VAR checked and cleared it, as it was deemed “reckless” but not enough for a sending off, but Romero would surely have been off without a doubt if Jones had simply produced the red initially.
Archie Gray was unfortunate to be booked for Dango Ouattara tackle
Archie Gray has been impressive for Spurs in recent times, hence why Frank handed him a third start in four games here next to Rodrigo Bentancur in midfield.

The 19-year-old did not put a foot wrong until the 77th minute as he tackled Dango Ouattara by the touchline as he broke forward and was yellow carded for his efforts.
While it was not a great tackle and he did not win the ball, despite desperately claiming as such to Jones, Gray should not have been booked considering it was his first foul of the game and Spurs had defensive cover in front of the pacey Brentford winger.
