Tottenham will be ‘a force to be reckoned with’ next season after Antonio Conte reveal – McAvennie

Frank McAvennie has claimed Tottenham will be a force to be reckoned with next season if Antonio Conte’s players can turn the stadium into a “fortress”.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-West Ham striker suggested Spurs won’t be “pushovers” next season.

As quoted by the Daily Mail (19 July), Conte said he wants other teams to fear his side next season.

The manager added that he wants other teams to be “worried” about facing the Lilywhites.

On Saturday (23 July), Spurs beat Rangers 2-1 in a pre-season friendly at Ibrox.

When asked if he thought Tottenham will need to be aggressive next season, McAvennie told Football Insider: “The game’s not about aggression anymore.

You can’t show your aggression to anybody now or you’ll get sent off. The referees are coming down so hard on it. Richarlison has been reprimanded a few times in his career.

I think what Conte is meaning is that they’re not pushovers, they’re not going to get rolled over and I think that’s what he’s meaning.

They’re going to stand up and match other teams. But that’s what you’ve got to do.

What Conte will be saying to the players is that when they’ve not got the ball, they win it back, they need to stand up and be counted. When they’ve got the ball, they have the quality to go and attack teams.

He wants teams to be afraid of their stadium, he’s trying to make it into a fortress. They will be a force to be reckoned with if they hit the ground running.
