Report: Tottenham make decision on 24-year-old PL ace, Pochettino is a huge fan
By Harvey Byrne
Tottenham are willing to wait until the summer to launch a fresh bid for Crystal Palace attacker Wilfried Zaha, according to a report.
The Sun claims that the north London outfit have earmarked the 24-year-old winger after having a £15million bid rejected last summer.
It is stated that manager Mauricio Pochettino is a huge fan of the fleet-footed Premier League ace and sees him as someone with massive potential.
However, it is reported that Spurs are not known to be big spenders in the winter, so any potential deal will have to be put on hold until the summer window.
Zaha is a product of the Palace academy, but he is in his second spell at the club after failing to make an impact at Manchester United.
He has been a star of the struggling south east London club this season with three goals and eight assists in his 17 appearances.
Manager Alan Pardew revealed in the summer that the two-time capped England international wanted the move to Tottenham.
However, owner Steve Parish was not interested in letting the attacking star follow Yannick Bolasie out of the door.
It is unlikely that Zaha’s opinion will have changed with Spurs in fifth and Palace down in 16th.
The Selhurst Park outfit may also be more open to a deal in the summer with the attacker a further year into his contract, which ends in 2020.
Football Insider verdict:
Tottenham are desperate for an attacker and Zaha would be a very good signing. However, if Pochettino wants a top four spot then he needs to bring in another forward in the winter. A 3-0 victory over relegation fighting Hull in midweek does not pave over the cracks that Spurs have a poor goals for record. Additionally, summer signings Georges-Kevin N’Koudou, Moussa Sissoko and Vincent Janssen have all failed to make an impact at the club. For these reasons Spurs must sign Zaha in the summer for depth reasons and the fact he is Premier League proven quality, but they must also sign another in January.
