Current £25k-a-week attacker fails to top worst Tottenham signings of PL era
5. Kazuyuki Toda
Signed from: Shimizu S-Pulse – Fee (approx): Loan – Appearances: 4 – Goals: 0
The list kicks off with a man who appeared to be more of a marketing stunt than an actual meaningful capture.
Toda arrived in north London from Shimizu S-Pulse in 2003 and sounded as though he could become a rare success from Asia in the Premier League, operating as a deep lying midfielder with good technical skills.
However, what looked good on paper did not transpire on the football pitch, as he struggled to deal with the combative and physical nature of England’s top flight.
He made four appearances without any sort of impact and returned to Japan where he spent the majority of his career, with brief spells in the Netherlands, South Korea and Singapore prior to his retirement in 2013.
