Current £25k-a-week attacker fails to top worst Tottenham signings of PL era
3. Vincent Janssen
Signed from: AZ Alkmaar – Fee (approx): £17million – Appearances: 39 – Goals: 6
While there are a fair few candidates to make this list of the worst signings ever pulled off by Tottenham, the club have done pretty well in avoiding many flops in recent years.
Unfortunately, Vincent Janssen is not one of the many to be considered a success.
Claimed to be picking up a modest £25,000-a-week by the Daily Star, it is the £17million the Lilywhites spent on the 17-cap Dutch striker which justifies his place on this list.
His first season in north London was hardly inspiring, looking slow and cumbersome in comparison to attacking counterparts Harry Kane and Heung-min Son, and he has never looked cut out for the Premier League.
Shipped out to Fenerbahce in the summer as Fernando Llorente took his place in the Spurs squad, he has hardly shown any sort of reason for him to come back and stake a claim, despite being just 23-years-old.
Another big money flop, and it would be a miracle if the club could muster anywhere near the money they splashed on his signing when he eventually departs for good.
