Current £25k-a-week attacker fails to top worst Tottenham signings of PL era

2. Paulinho

Signed from: Corinthians – Fee (approx): £17million – Appearances: 67- Goals: 10

With 46 caps for Brazil under his belt and currently turning out for European giants Barcelona, Spurs fans would never believe that the Catalan side’s Paulinho was the same player that arrived at White Hart Lane in 2013.

There was much hype over the Brazilian midfielder when he arrived from his home country, having already picked up the first of his numerous international caps, but a bright start to his career in north London dissipated into disappointment.

His time at Spurs hit a low against Burnley when an attempted shot lacked power and accuracy and dribbled out of play metres away from the actual goal – and the fans’ faces afterwards said it all.

After falling behind Ryan Mason and Nabil Bentaleb, he found himself shipped out to Guangzhou Everglade in China, where he proceeded to reinvent himself and earn a move to one of the biggest football clubs in the world.
