Peterborough are lining up a move to sign Bolton Wanderers defender Mark Beevers on a free transfer, Football Insider understands.

Beevers, 29, is out of contract at Bolton next month and looks set to leave the cash-strapped club after they went into administration earlier this month.

A number of clubs have shown an interest in taking Beevers on a free transfer, but Peterborough are aiming to steal a march on their rivals by tying up a deal for the former Millwall man.

Peterborough boss Darren Ferguson has made Beevers one of his top transfer targets this summer and is hopeful of luring the central defender to the ABAX Stadium.

Beevers boasts a wealth of experience having made over 450 first-team appearances in spells at Sheffield Wednesday, Millwall and Bolton.

Ferguson is seeking to build a squad capable of challenging for promotion to the Championship next season and bringing in Beevers would be regarded as a coup for the club.
