Ryan Bertrand is to become the second Leicester City summer signing, Football Insider understands.

A Leicester source has told Football Insider that Bertrand, 31, has now agreed a two-year contract with the club.

He will put pen to paper on the transfer and become their second summer recruit after striker Patson Daka.

It was announced in May that Bertrand would leave the Saints upon the expiry of his contract.

That news was confirmed when the club posted its released list on 4th June.

Josh Sims and Jake Hesketh were also let go by Southampton.

Leicester boss Brendan Rodgers is understood to be a big admirer of Bertrand.

The 48-year-old sees him as a viable replacement for Christian Fuchs who left the club earlier in June for MLS side Charlotte FC after six years of service.

A Champions League winner in 2012, Bertrand made 240 appearances for Southampton after signing from Chelsea in a £10million deal in 2015.

He featured 29 times in the league for Ralph Hasenhuttl's side in 2020-21 as they finished 15th in the final standings.

He scored eight times and supplied 20 assists in his time with the club.

Bertrand has also been capped 19 times by England and was part of the squad that competed in the European Championship in 2016.

Southampton are preparing for life without Bertrand and, as revealed by this site yesterday (29th May), are closing in on the signing of Stade Brest left-back Romain Perraud.
