Pundit delighted by Newcastle United signing plan after what he's heard

Celtic and West Ham legend Frank McAvennie joined the Football Insider stable in June 2020 and has not disappointed with his own brand of unique punditry. He loves talking football almost as much as he loved scoring goals, and still has close links in the dressing room at Parkhead.

Frank McAvennie has hailed Newcastle United's approach to transfers since their takeover.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former West Ham striker said whilst money is not an issue he is pleased to see Newcastle attempting to bring in the right players rather than the most expensive.

Earlier this month (5 November), sources told this site that the Magpies have set aside a "huge sum" for a box-office January signing.

The north-east giants have spent big in the two windows since the Saudi Arabia-led PiF takeover and the recruitment team have been given the green light to bring in big money signings in January.

McAvennie said the Toon may be forced to start paying over the odds for players.

"I do not think the money is a problem," he told Football Insider.

"Whoever Newcastle buy at the moment, the price is going to go up minimum 25 per cent because of who they are and how much money they have got.

"The same thing happened with Man City, the prices went up every time they approached someone.

"Newcastle are not just bringing in the big guns because they can. I heard that they want to bring in players that are hungry and that are right for the dressing room. That is so refreshing to hear."
