The Liverpool priority this summer is keeping hold of their stars rather than replacing them with stellar talent.

Jurgen Klopp has already emphasised that none of the first-team stars integral to the club's first league title in 30 years will be sold this summer.

A Liverpool source has told Football Insider that the club are working on a number of high-value deals that will eat into Klopp's budget for transfers and new contracts.

The Premier League champions are in talks with Georginio Wijnaldum over a long-term new deal and they are progressing well enough to give hope it can be finalised in the coming weeks.

Negotiations with Harvey Elliott over a new contract have been finalised and an announcement is set for the end of the season.

The precocious 17-year-old has agreed the terms of a three-year deal - the maximum allowed for someone of his age - worth more than £20,000-a-week.

Virgil van Dijk is in line for a new contract worth 10 times that of his junior teammate.

His current agreement, worth a basic £124,000-a-week plus various performance related add-ons, expires in the summer of 2023.

It is not as pressing as the need to tie Wijnaldum, 29, down with his fellow Holland international able to leave on a free in 12 months.

Klopp is in no doubt about the importance to his side of both Dutchmen, or the rare talent of Elliott.
