Sources: Significant update on Man City bid to sign Ben Chilwell
Chelsea defender Ben Chilwell is a target for Man City ahead of the summer window, sources have told Football Insider.
It is believed that a new left-back is a top priority for the Premier League challengers in the off-season.
City are long-term admirers of Chilwell, 26, and tried to bring him to the Etihad Stadium in 2020 - before his move to Chelsea.
The England international ticks a lot of boxes for Man City - and would qualify as a much-needed home-grown option in the event of a transfer.
It is understood that summer-of-2022 signing Sergio Gomez, who joined from Anderlecht for a reported £11million, is only seen as a squad player in Pep Guardiola's side.
Joao Cancelo departed Man City late in the January window.
Football Insider revealed on 4 February that Cancelo, 28, is not expected to play for the club again after completing a shock loan-to-buy move to Bayern Munich.
The German giants are able to activate a £61million buy option at the end of the season.
Chilwell has managed just 11 starts across all competitions this season - including six in the Premier League.
He has recently returned to action after a long-term hamstring injury, which also affected his selection for the World Cup in Qatar.
The 17-cap England international joined Chelsea from Leicester in 2020 for a reported fee in the region of £50million.
His contract at Stamford Bridge runs until June 2025.
Chelsea moved to add Marc Cucurella last summer (2022) - and the former Brighton star has been rotated with Chilwell this season.
Following Cancelo's departure, Man City centre-backs Nathan Ake and Manuel Akanji have been sharing left-back duties.
Youngster Rico Lewis is also an option for Pep Guardiola on the left side of the City defence.
