Tottenham are expected to let Eric Dier leave the club if their late summer business goes to plan, sources have told Football Insider.

Dier, 29, was left out of the matchday squad as Tottenham drew 2-2 away at Brentford on Sunday (13 August).

It is believed any further arrivals in defence and midfield would only push the former England international further down the pecking order.

Clubs have been alerted to a possible cut-price deal for Dier due to his contract situation - but a move is likely to hinge on the status of any new arrivals.

Tottenham are expected to seal a flurry of late deals after raking in a reported £86million initial fee for talisman Harry Kane.

Van de Ven started alongside Cristian Romero against Brentford, with Davinson Sanchez coming on for the World Cup winner in the first half.

Meanwhile, sources have also told Football Insider (15 August) that Tottenham are planning to sign a big-name midfield star - another role which Dier has featured in during his nine years at the club.

Dier made 42 appearances across all competitions last season, playing exclusively as a centre-back.

The former Sporting CP man, who earns a reported £85,000-a-week, penned his last contract extension in 2020.
