Tottenham are set to tell January signing Teddy Smith to find a new club, Football Insider has learned.

The 24-year-old was the least heralded of Spurs' arrivals in January after being handed a short-term contract on deadline day following his trial last summer.

A Tottenham source has told Football Insider that Smith is set to be let go when his deal expires.

This will allow the former Southend United keeper to find a new team resume his first-team playing career.

He was signed by Tottenham as a training-ground keeper and not one to contend with senior trio Hugo Lloris, Paulo Gazzaniga and Michel Vorm for a place in Jose Mourinho' senior squad.

The deal for Smith, which was first revealed by Football Insider on the last day of the January window, after young Spurs keeper Brandon Austin joined Danish side Viborg on loan for the rest of the season.

Austin and fellow youngster Alfie Whiteman have both featured on the bench for Tottenham's senior side this season.

Number one Lloris spent months on the sidelines with an elbow injury, which allowed Gazzaniga an extended spell in goal.

Michel Vorm returned on a short-term contract in the autumn after being released last summer.

Smith had a Tottenham trial last summer and was named in goal for the club's pre-season clash with Dulwich Hamlet in south London.

He was released by Southend United at the end of last season after 30 appearances for their first team.
