Nuno Espirito Santo has agreed terms with Tottenham and could be appointed the club's new manager by the end of the weekend, Football Insider can reveal.
This site first broke the news on Wednesday (23rd June) that Spurs had turned their attention to luring the Portuguese in a shock twist to their managerial search.
A Tottenham source has told Football Insider that discussions during the subsequent period have gone well and there is a growing confidence among all parties a deal can be finalised.
Nuno, 47, has agreed salary terms with Spurs and has made it clear he is keen to take the post.
There are some issues to be ironed out, including the composition and make-up of the backroom staff.
Nuno is renowned for his unusually large entourage and that has proved a stumbling block in talks with other Premier League clubs, including Eveton.
Tottenham managing director Fabio Paratici is the driving force behind the Nuno interest and is said to be finalising negotiations with Nuno's agent Jorge Mendes.
He is said to believe it would rank as a “major coup” if the Londoners were able to lure the ex-Wolves boss.
It is also a significant U-turn, as Spurs had emphatically ruled out appointing Nuno in the early stages of their manager search.
Nuno, 47, is available after leaving Wolves by mutual consent in May following a four-year spell at the helm.
Tottenham were previously in talks with Antonio Conte but that move ultimately fell through.
Paulo Fonseca, the man ex-Spurs boss Jose Mourinho replaced at Roma, was also on the verge of being appointed until that deal also hit the buffers.
