Sheffield Wednesday are confident of signing Josh Onomah from Tottenham this summer for a multi-million pound fee, Football Insider understands.

Football Insider revealed exclusively last month that Wednesday had opened talks with Spurs about converting Onomah's 2018-19 loan into a permanent transfer.

The deal has not been agreed as the Championship club wait on Tottenham, who are set to wait until they return to pre-season before giving the green light for the 22-year-old and their other young stars to go.

Nevertheless, a source with knowledge of the situation has told Football Insider that Onomah is keen to link up full time with Wednesday manager Steve Bruce and the transfer remains firmly on the cards.

Tottenham are likely to given the green light for the versatile midfielder to leave permanently with two years remaining on his contract.

Onomah has made 32 senior Spurs appearances, but has spent the last two seasons out on loan, after playing for Steve Bruce first at Aston Villa in 2017-18 and then at Wednesday when he was appointed in the last campaign.

The Tottenham academy product did not play as regularly for the Yorkshire club as he had at Villa, but he was limited to 16 appearances for the Owls due to two serious hamstring injuries.
