Trent Alexander-Arnold could start in new role after ‘unbelievable’ Liverpool reveal – pundit

Trent Alexander-Arnold could play on the right-hand side of midfield for Liverpool in future games.

That is the view of former Spurs and England number one Paul Robinson, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the selection dilemmas facing Jurgen Klopp this week.

James Milner started at right-back in Liverpool’s 1-0 win over Man City on Sunday (16 October).

The versatile midfielder impressed alongside Joe Gomez on the right side of the defence.

Speaking to club media (16 October), Klopp heaped praise on Milner for his “unbelievable” Milner display.

Alexander-Arnold returned from injury in the clash, replacing Mohamed Salah to play on the right-hand side of midfield for the final six minutes.

Jurgen Klopp’s side welcome West Ham to Anfield on Wednesday night before a trip to Nottingham Forest on Saturday lunchtime.

When asked by Football Insider if Alexander-Arnold would likely return for the two Premier League fixtures, Robinson said: “The option Jurgen Klopp has got is Trent coming back in at right-back or moving into the midfield.

“I thought Trent was good in that role when he came on. Harvey Elliott did really well in that position as well though.

“Milner cannot play three games a week because of his age and where he is at in his career. It will only be a matter of time before Trent comes in at right-back.

“Milner is a utility player. He will be rotated in and out of the side when Klopp sees fit.”
