Trent Alexander-Arnold shares Darwin Nunez image in new Liverpool message
Liverpool defender Trent Alexander-Arnold has shared an image of teammate Darwin Nunez after the striker ended his goal drought in their 2-1 League Cup win over Southampton on Wednesday (December 18).
The 25-year-old opened the scoring in the 24th minute following a brilliant piece of play by Alexander-Arnold, 26.
His through-ball took a deflection off Jan Bednarek, leaving Nunez one-on-one with Southampton goalkeeper Alex McCarthy, who could do nothing to stop Nunez’s cool finish.
Harvey Elliot then doubled the visitor’s lead just after the half-hour mark, all but securing the win for Arne Slot’s side over managerless Southampton.
Cameron Archer made it a little tense in the second half but his goal was ultimately nothing more than a consolation, and Liverpool progressed to the semi-finals.
Nunez’s goal against Southampton marked his first in eight appearances across all competitions for club and country, with his last coming in Liverpool’s 2-0 Premier League win over Aston Villa.
The striker has struggled to impress his new manager, starting just 12 of his 21 games across all competitions, scoring four goals, and providing three assists in 1148 minutes of action.

The England international, on the other hand, has been key to Slot’s plans this season, starting 19 of his 20 games across all competitions, scoring zero goals, and providing four assists in 1501 minutes on the pitch.
Alexander-Arnold took to Instagram after the game to share an image of himself and Nunez, captioning the post: “Into the Semis! Good win on the road.”

Liverpool have done just fine without a firing Nunez, sitting at the top of both the Premier League and the new Champions League league phase.
Slot’s side travel to North London on Sunday (December 22) as they prepare for a crucial game with Ange Postecoglu’s stuttering Tottenham side.
