Trent Alexander-Arnold shocks in ‘ridiculous’ moment for Liverpool vs Man City
Trent Alexander-Arnold stunned Gary Neville with his “ridiculous” 70-yard pass as Liverpool added to Man City’s woes with a 2-0 win at Anfield.
The England international produced a moment of brilliance during Liverpool’s match against Man City, showcasing his playmaking ability with a stunning long pass in the first half that the pundit insisted coudl never be bettered by a defender.
The Reds full-back played a ball from deep in his own half 18 minutes into the game, bending it perfectly around the retreating Nathan Ake into the path of Mohamed Salah. As the Egyptian ran onto it, Ake made a last-ditch challenge to prevent him from going clean through on goal.
Former Man United defender Neville said on Sky Sports (4:18pm): “You’ll never see a better pass than that from a right-back. That is ridiculous. It’s about 70 or 80 yards, faded, right round Ake and back into the path of Salah.”
Arne Slot’s side took a 1-0 lead in the first half against the Citizens after Salah penetrated their high backline and raced down the right delivering a brilliant cross for Cody Gakpo who scored from a yard out at the far post, before the exit-linked attacking star added a second from the spot late on.

Football Insider opinion
This season, the 26-year-old has embraced a more defensive role under Arne Slot, a shift that highlights his versatility as both a traditional full-back and a modern attacking presence.
The Kop’s league-leading six clean sheets owe much to the England ace’s defensive contributions, showcasing attributes like positional awareness, tackling, and resilience that often went under-appreciated in his previous, more attacking midfield-focused role under Jürgen Klopp.

Despite registering just two assists this season, Alexander-Arnold’s creative pedigree is undeniable, having achieved over 10 Premier League assists in three separate campaigns for Liverpool—a testament to his attacking influence.
Yet, as with Salah and Virgil van Dijk, his future at Anfield is uncertain as all three contracts are currently set to expire in the summer, and Real Madrid may be waiting to snap up the full-back.
His adaptability this term demonstrates a maturity in his game, proving he can shine as a key component in both attack and defence. This evolution has solidified his place as one of the most complete full-backs in the modern game, pivotal to the Reds ongoing success this season.
