BT Sport pundit: Celtic have difficult transfer decision on inconsistent player

Michael Stewart has claimed that Celtic would perhaps be better off waiting until the summer before selling star striker Moussa Dembele.

The 21-year-old Frenchman had a poor game in the 0-0 Old Firm derby amidst constant speculation linking him with a move away from Glasgow.

The Daily Star recently reported that up to four English Premier League clubs are interested in signing the French under-21 international in January,

Writing in the Scottish Sun, the former Hearts midfielder turned BT Sport pundit believes that although the summer would be the best time to sell the player the Hoops might not be able to turn down a big money bid for the player in January.

“Dembele’s future looks likely to dominate this window — and it’s a tricky situation for his club. There is no doubt he’s a top player, but there hasn’t been any consistency from him in recent months,” he said.

“Do Celtic cash in? Part of me thinks that they’d be better holding off until the summer when it’s easier to get new signings in.

“But then, it’s also difficult to turn down a ridiculous bid if one does come in from an English side.”

Dembele’s injury problems have restricted his appearances this season but he still has eight goals to his name, including a strike against PSG in the Champions League group stages.

The player has been inconsistent though – something which Stewart eluded to – and wasn’t at his best against Rangers and was substituted after 61 minutes to be replaced by Leigh Griffiths.

Dembele made his name in a superb first season in Glasgow, scoring 32 goals as Brendan Rodgers’ side secured a first domestic treble since 2001 and first unbeaten league campaign since the the 1890s.

His Champions League group stage performances also caught the eye, as he scored three goals including a memorable double against Manchester City.
