Kevin Campbell has dismissed calls for Slaven Bilic to be sacked by West Brom and insisted he is doing an “amazing” job.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider correspondent Dylan Childs, the former Baggies and Arsenal striker made the surprise claim the newly-promoted side should hand their Croatian manager a new contract rather than dismiss him.
Speculation has been growing that West Brom may be close to sacking Bilic after a poor start to their Premier League return has left them 18th in the Premier League.
The Mail have reported that the former West Ham boss was on the brink of losing his job before their last match against Tottenham, which they lost 1-0 due to a late Harry Kane goal.
Football Insider pundit and former Aston Villa striker Gabriel Agbonlahor tips Bilic to be sacked if he does not win one of his next four matches.
However, Campbell, who spent two seasons at the Hawthorns as a player, backed the under-fire Baggies boss.
“Slav has been doing an amazing job,” he told Football Insider. “I love Slav, I have got a lot of time for him and West Brom as a football club.
“I do not know what some of these clubs want from their managers. It is like they need
to be miracle workers.
“The job he has done in getting them up is enough to warrant a new contract in itself, trust me.
“He has had to contend with a lot of different egos but he has got them all pulling in the same direction.
“Many have failed before him but he has done it. He deserves the opportunity to continue managing the club whatever happens at the end of the season.”
