After deal all but done claim, Times report twist in Tottenham bid to sign £50m-valued attacker
By Richard Parks
Tottenham’s hopes of signing Ryan Sessegnon have been hit by Paris Saint-Germain’s willingness to pay what it takes to sign the £50million-valued Fulham sensation, according to a report.
The Times claim the super-rich French giants has “complicated” Spurs’ pursuit of the 17-year-old left-sided ace, who was recently named Championship player of the season.
It comes after French football site Paris United claim Sessegnon has agreed personal terms with the north Londoners, who have also agreed a deal with his club Fulham.
Paris United report the only hurdle remaining to the transfer is whether Sessegnon joins this summer or is loaned back to the west Londoners next season, with the latter to happen if Fulham succeed in winning the Championship play-offs.
Football Insider verdict:
The last thing Tottenham want is for the waters in their pursuit of Sessegnon to be muddied by a club willing to pay the earth for a player with the world at his feet. Left-back turned left-winger Sessegnon has emerged as one of Europe’s most coveted players on the back of his astonishing performances in the Championship given that he does not turn 18 until later this month. He has made the Championship team of the season in his first two campaigns – aged just 16 and 17 – and was named the division’s best player for 2017-18. In 49 appearances for Fulham this season, he has scored 15 goals, including a remarkable 11 in a goal-machine style spell since Boxing Day. Spurs have put a lot of groundwork into a deal for Sessegnon and appear a good fit for the player given Mauricio Pochettino’s track record of developing young players. But there will be anxiety among top brass at White Hart Lane that PSG have the funds to blow them out of the water.
In other Tottenham news, the club have blown Manchester United out of the water to seal the signing of 2018, with many claiming the deal is now done.
