‘Worst player since Ian Black’ – Rangers fans slam summer signing after Partick draw

By James Black

Rangers fans got another sighting of Carlos Pena in a Rangers shirt on Friday night in the draw with Partick Thistle and they were less than impressed – with one supporter calling him the “worst player since Ian Black.”

Pena was a second-half substitute against Partick but the midfielder struggled to get to grips with the pace of the game and misplaced passes.

Goals from Alfredo Morelos and Graham Dorrans rescued a point for the Gers as they missed the chance to go top of the Scottish Premiership for the first time since Christmas 2011.

The Gers sit third in the table – equal on points with St. Johnstone – but could now go into next weekend’s Old Firm game five points behind bitter rivals Celtic.

Rangers paid £2.2million for summer signing Pena from Chivas Guadalajara and fans of the Ibrox giants have slammed him for his latest display in blue.

Here are some of their comments on Twitter:

Pena will possibly start against Partick Thistle on Tuesday night when the sides meet again in the League Cup but his form so far doesn’t leave Rangers fans confident.

A good run of games could change fans’ view of the Mexican who scored his first goal for the club against Dundee last weekend.

Next week’s Old Firm clash with Celtic will be a big test for Pena as he tries to win fans round.

The 19-time capped Mexico international needs to get up to speed soon if he is to have any chance of getting fans back on-side.

A goal against Celtic would go a long way to helping that.
