‘Tyler Morton relative responds after Andy Robertson Liverpool throat-grab’

Liverpool midfielder Tyler Morton’s brother has responded after footage Andy Robertson grabbing the youngster by the throat emerged at their match against Lille.

The 22-year-old was warming-up ahead of kick-off in the Champions League (21 January) when his 30-year-old teammate grabbed him by the throat and shoved him away.

It was a surprising moment, and Morton kicked-out at the Scotland international after being grabbed, with no response from Robertson.

However, in an update given to downplay the incident, Morton’s brother Nathan said on X: “Fair play to him I’ve wanted to do it a few times over the years myself”, with a laughing emoji.

The response indicates that the grab was likely done in an unserious manner, but it was still a surprising thing to see in a pre-match warm-up.

Liverpool prepare for Champions League draw with Europe’s elite

Football Insider Verdict

Despite winning all seven of their Champions League games so far, and being guaranteed a top-two place in the league stage, Liverpool could be facing one of Europe’s elite in the knockout stages.

First place are currently set to face the winners of either the 15th, 16th, 17th, or 18th placed side, those teams are Bayern Munich, Real Madrid, Juventus and Celtic.

Facing one of those teams in their first knockout round game of the “new” Champions League will likely feel more like a punishment, as opposed to a reward, for finishing top.

The Reds have had a dominant campaign under manager Arne Slot so far this year, but facing any one of those teams could potentially knock the wind out of the Merseyside team.

Trent Alexander-Arnold has been linked with a move to Real Madrid

Slot will also want to have the team at full-focus heading into the most important stage of the season, and the noise surrounding the contract situation of Mohamed Salah, Virgil van Dijk and Trent Alexander-Arnold will only increase the pressure on the Dutchman.

In other news, Liverpool have been linked with a move for one of the Premier League’s best defenders this season.
