Tyler Roberts Exclusive: Big transfer update on Leeds star amid deluge

Leeds United are besieged with interest in Tyler Roberts from the top to the bottom of the Championship, Football Insider can reveal.

The Elland Road future of the Wales international, 21, is up in the air as he has made just two Premier League starts this season and struggled for game time.

A Leeds source has told Football Insider that there has been a flood of enquiries from clubs registering the interest in Roberts including Derby County, Sheffield Wednesday, Cardiff City, Preston North End and Bournemouth.

Football Insider broke the news last September that Roberts was the subject of strong Derby interest at a time when Leeds were in talks to sign Rodrigo de Paul from Udinese in a mega-money deal.

That eventually collapsed but Wayne Rooney’s side are hopeful a deal can be resurrected in the new window.

They face intense competition to agree a deal and that is complicated by uncertainty over whether Marcelo Bielsa will allow Roberts to go.

The source explained that Roberts’ many suitors are looking for encouragement from Leeds that a deal may be possible.

At Leeds, the versatile forward has slipped down the pecking order following the signings of Rodrigo Moreno and Raphinha in the last window.

The Welshman came off for the bench late on against West Ham and Newcastle United last month but that had been his first match action in a month.

Tellingly, he has not figured in Leeds’ last four matches and did not even make the matchday squad for the 3-0 defeat at Tottenham.

Roberts has been in and out of the Leeds side since signing from West Brom in a deal worth up to £4m in January 2018.

He has suffered a series of major injuries and played only 63 times for United, scoring seven goals and supplying seven assists.

In other news, Rodrigo De Paul “will be wearing a Leeds United jersey by the end of January” after a huge Twitter update.
