‘UEFA must revisit Champions League decision after new Man United, Tottenham losses’
Manchester United or Tottenham gaining a place in next season’s Champions League is generating further outrage after both lost again the Premier League.
Both United and Spurs have had dismal domestic campaigns, sitting 16th and 17th in the Premier League respectively.
Ruben Amorim’s side were beaten 2-0 by West Ham at the weekend, and defender Leny Yoro may miss the Europa League final after being forced off with an injury.
Tottenham’s Dejan Kulusevski is also a doubt for the final, after he was substituted early into Spurs’ 2-0 defeat to Crystal Palace.
The two sides have seemingly abandoned their league form, ensuring that full focus is on the crucial European clash next week.

Spurs and United could force UEFA to rethink rules
Man United and Tottenham are not only both eager to secure some much-needed silverware, but are also desperate to clinch a Champions League spot for next season.
For some time now, both sides have had no chance of securing a passage to Europe’s elite competition through the league, but this final has offered a last chance saloon for the pair.
Position | Team | Games | Points |
16 | Man United | 36 | 39 |
17 | Tottenham | 36 | 38 |
18 | Ipswich (R) | 36 | 22 |
19 | Leicester (R) | 36 | 22 |
20 | Southampton (R) | 36 | 12 |
However, some people don’t believe that the Europa League winners should be handed a place in the Champions League.
Presenter Richard Keys has taken to X (11 May) to urge UEFA to revisit this rule, as currently United and Spurs are only above the three relegated clubs in the Premier League.
Keys wrote: “Spurs – 17th. United 16th. They’ve lost 37 league games between them. Only the 3 relegated clubs are worse. One or the other is supposed to be playing CL football next season. UEFA have to re-visit that decision now. It shouldn’t be allowed.”
Arsene Wenger also recently suggested the current set up should be changed in an appearance on Keys’ beIN Sports programme.
Fascinating final too close to call
Football Insider Verdict
The Europa League final between Man United and Tottenham is fascinating for a large number of reasons, not least for the importance it has on both teams’ seasons.
Spurs have been unflatteringly depicted for years now as serial bottlers, and the only way they can shake that tag is by getting the job done when it matters and finally ending their trophy hoodoo.
For the Red Devils, despite their almost never-ending poor form, they seem to always turn up in finals and somehow get the job done.
Last season they beat Manchester City in the FA Cup final, and in the campaign before that they were victorious in the League Cup.
However, Tottenham are unbeaten in their last six games against United, and have always performed well against the red side of Manchester under Postecoglou.
With so much on the line, it is set up to be a frantic final and it could go either way in Bilbao.
