Unexpected break will do Celtic mainstay world of good as season reaches climax
COMMENT
Normally it is very bad news when a player is missing through injury, but it might be a rare case of good news for Celtic that Kieran Tierney is missing Scotland’s upcoming friendlies with a calf injury.
The 20-year-old has played an absurd amount of football this season, as a mainstay of the team he has made 48 appearances so far this season, which is an incredible amount.
To show much football the left-back has played this season, the Daily Record reported on a survey which showed that if you include games played for Scotland then Tierney had played more minutes than any other player in World football.
It’s just a surprise that he hasn’t suffered more injuries, as the Hoops’ lack of a natural left-back replacement has seen Tierney be an almost ever-present in the team.
The Bhoys did miss Tierney in the recent goalless draw v Motherwell, but if he is back in time for the Hoops’ matches after the international break and for the upcoming Scottish Cup semi-final against Rangers in April then it will be a case of short-term pain for long-term gain for the player and the club.
If the Hoops want to complete an unprecedented second consecutive domestic treble, then they will need all of their most important players raring to go, Tierney is one of those and he will be as important as ever when he returns from injury.
In other Celtic news, the Hoops have been linked with Real Zaragoza centre-forward Borja Iglesias
