Van Bronckhorst will be secretly thrilled after Rangers training ground reveal – McLeish

Alex McLeish has suggested Giovanni van Bronckhorst will be secretly delighted with the enforced break in fixtures at Rangers.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Gers boss insisted “every manager would relish” the chance to work on tactics and strategy without the pressure of upcoming games.

Speaking to Rangers TV on Sunday (26 December), Van Bronckhorst revealed he would use the three-week gap to focus on getting his “message” across to the players.

He insisted Rangers could return from the winter break a better and more improved side.

As reported by the Scottish Sun (21 December), Rangers were among two Premiership sides to oppose the postponement of games around New Year’s Day.

However, McLeish suggested Van Bronckhorst would be rubbing his hands together at Auchenhowie.

“I believe that the management team will now be able to watch really closely with them on the training ground,” McLeish told Football Insider’s Russell Edge.

“There will be more training to be done and more organisation. More of the strategy will come to the fore with Van Bronckhorst able to train these guys every day.

“Let’s face it. He has come in and from day one it’s been game after game after game. Now he’s got a chance to really put his ideas across.

“I would think that would be something that every manager would relish, without a doubt.

“It happened in my years at Rangers. When I watched some of the videos, I felt we were playing too slow. I had a wee bit of training time. We worked on pressing and build-up from the back at a very fast tempo.

“There’s a lot of things you can do on the training field when you’ve got the time.”

Rangers currently sit six points clear at the top of the Premiership table.

The Gers will return to action on 18 January with a visit to Aberdeen.
