Van de Ven and James Maddison react after Tottenham deal agreed
Tottenham Hotspur had a rare piece of good news for their supporters after a turbulent 48 hours in north London.
Spurs fans the world over are reeling after Tottenham announced the dismissal of Ange Postecoglou on Friday (6 June), just 16 days after he won the Europa League Final to lift their first silverware since 2008.
Postecoglou being shown the door despite winning the Lilywhites’ first trophy in over 17 years leaves Daniel Levy under pressure to find a successor, as Tottenham look to pursue Brentford’s Thomas Frank.
Former Spurs goalkeeper Paul Robinson told Football Insider prior to Postecoglou’s sacking that much of Tottenham’s recruitment decisions have been put on hold, but one new deal has now been agreed.

Tottenham confirm Ben Davies decision after exit speculation
The long-running saga of Postecoglou’s future has distracted from the squad issues which Spurs must face up to this summer, namely the plethora of out-of-contract players Tottenham looked set to lose.
Ben Davies’ contract was one in line to expire at the end of June, and a number of clubs including the ambitious Birmingham City and Wrexham in his native Wales had weighed up moves for the 32-year-old.
Leeds United were also seen as well placed to sign Davies on a free transfer this summer after their Premier League return, but Tottenham have now announced that the Welsh international will stay put.
In an Instagram post (8 June), which both James Maddison and Micky van de Ven responded to with a like, Spurs said: “We are delighted to announce that we have exercised the option to extend Ben Davies’ contract, which will now run until the summer of 2026.”
Tottenham transfers delayed after Postecoglou axe
Davies may have only featured 28 times last season and made just 14 starts in the Premier League, but his experience could prove vital for Tottenham‘s new manager with a squad overhaul on the cards.
Frank is currently the front-runner to succeed Postecoglou if Spurs can pry him away from Brentford in the coming days, but it’s unclear how quickly he’ll be able to prepare for a Champions League campaign.
Levy is set to give Tottenham’s new manager £270million to spend ahead of their return to Europe’s elite, but with a recruitment department in stasis and Postecoglou’s exit disrupting the squad, Frank faces a race against time if and when he takes charge.
