Van Dijk sends Liverpool message after ‘shocking error’, Konate & Elliott react

Liverpool captain Virgil van Dijk remained positive on social media despite a performance that raised some eyebrows as the side triumphed over PSG in the Champions League.

Liverpool took a significant step towards advancing to the quarter-finals with a hard-fought 1-0 win over Paris Saint-Germain.

Harvey Elliott scored just a minute after coming on in the 87th minute, while goalkeeper Alisson produced an outstanding performance to secure the clean sheet.

Van Dijk partnered with Ibrahima Konate at the back, but both defenders had moments that could have cost the team. Van Dijk made a shocking mistake when a ball was played through by PSG to Ousmane Dembele, who was left completely unmarked and with a clear opportunity on goal.

Former PGMOL chief Keith Hackett suggested that Konate should have been sent off for Liverpool after a last-ditch challenge on Bradley Barcola that went unnoticed by the referee.

Despite these errors, the team held firm to claim the vital victory, and the Dutchman was quick to share his thoughts on social media after the match.

Van Dijk shared a number of pictures from the game on Instagram, captioning the post with: “Big night in Paris. Anfield next.”

Curtis Jones responded in the comments with an emoji, while Konate, Alisson, and goalscorer Elliott showed their support by liking the post.

Despite the victory, Van Dijk’s future at the club remains uncertain with just a few months left on his current contract. He could potentially leave on a free transfer, alongside teammates Trent Alexander-Arnold and Mohamed Salah.

While Alexander-Arnold has been linked with a move to Real Madrid, former Tottenham goalkeeper Paul Robinson told Football Insider that Van Dijk is close to committing his future to Liverpool, though no deal has been confirmed yet.
