Victor Wanyama claims Tottenham pair just click together
By Dominic Toner
Victor Wanyama believes that he works extremely well alongside team-mate Mousa Dembele in the Tottenham midfield.
The duo have struck up a formidable partnership this season in the central midfield positions and are mainstays in Mauricio Pochettino’s side.
They both completed 90 minutes on Saturday as Spurs recorded a narrow 1-0 victory against Middlesbrough at White Hart Lane.
The north London club earned the three points courtesy of a Harry Kane penalty in the second-half and strengthened their second-place position in the table.
Spurs’ resilient midfield were crucial to their victory and Wanyama feels that he operates well with Dembele.
“Moussa Dembele and I just click together, long may that continue. I’ve known him for a while and we work well as a pair,” Wanyama said, as quoted by the club’s official Twitter account.
Dembele and Eric Dier formed a good understanding last season for Spurs as they finished third in the league standings.
However, Wanyama’s arrival from Southampton forced Dier back into a defensive position and created a new-look midfield.
Wanyama, 25, acts as a defensive shield for the side and allows box-to-box midfielder Dembele the licence to go forward.
They have proved on countless occasions how difficult they can be to face as they dominated Chelsea pair N’Golo Kante and Nemanja Matic in a recent meeting.
