First Ronaldo Vieira interview: Ace shares thoughts on starring in Premier League
By Harry Sykes
Ronaldo Vieira has revealed his desire to play in the Premier League next season for Leeds.
The Elland Road sensation has emerged as one of the outstanding young players in the Championship on the back of his team’s promotion-chasing campaign.
Leeds are fifth in the second tier heading into their Saturday afternoon league clash against Cardiff and are firmly established as one of the clubs with genuine top flight hopes.
Vieira did not make his first-team debut until the final match of last season but has thrived in central midfield for Garry Monk’s side.
Former England manager Steve McClaren was blown away by his performance in Leeds’ 1-0 win over Derby last month and Bundesliga big hitters RB Leipzig are among the clubs reportedly monitoring him.
Vieira has admitted he would love to play top-flight football as he sets his sights on getting the fallen Yorkshire giants back in the big time after 13 years in the doldrums.
“It would feel brilliant, and not just for me and not just for Leeds fans,” said Vieira to the Sun in what they claim is his first major interview.
“Fans of the Premier League want Leeds back there. So we will try and do our best to get there this year — we have a good chance.”
Vieira has thrived since Monk took over the Elland Road reins last summer and has made 26 appearances in all competitions this season, including 14 league starts.
He is is contention to start for Leeds against Neil Warnock’s Cardiff on Saturday as they aim to get their promotion bid back on track following last weekend’s 2-1 defeat to Huddersfield.
