Vinicius Jr mocks Man City in new social media message
Real Madrid superstar Vinicius Jr has seemingly aimed a sly dig at Man City on social media after their 3-1 Champions League victory on Wednesday (February 19).
The 24-year-old was on the receiving end of a controversial tifo set up by the Man City fans in the reverse fixture at the Etihad, which Real Madrid ended up winning 3-2 thanks to a late Jude Bellingham goal.
Jamie Carragher believes the tifo, which included an image of Rodri holding the Ballon d’Or alongside the famous Oasis lyric, “Stop crying your heart out” seriously backfired, branding it ‘absolutely ridiculous’.
The La Liga clubs decided to boycott the ceremony after Rodri beat Vinicius to the most prestigious individual award in football earlier in the season.
Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti made his feelings known on the banner in his post-match press conference after the game, saying: “If he saw it, it served as a source of motivation for him.”
Kylian Mbappe’s hattrick was more than enough to send the current Champions League holders through to the last 16, securing a 6-3 aggregate win for the Spaniards with the second leg ending 3-1.

The Brazilian has once again been key for Real Madrid this season, starting 28 of his 32 games across all competitions, scoring 16 goals, and providing 12 assists in his 2599 minutes of action.
Vinicius appeared to aim a sly dig at Man City in his most recent post on X, formally known as Twitter, which said: “Okay okay okay!!!!!!!” followed by a crying emoji.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, PGMOL chief and ex-FIFA official Keith Hackett believes the result could have been different with City missing out on a potential penalty against Real Madrid.
Pep Guardiola’s side can now focus on the Premier League as they prepare for a visit from current league leaders Liverpool on Sunday (February 22).
