Virgil van Dijk confirms Liverpool boost with training ground reveal

Virgil van Dijk looks to have confirmed a major injury boost for Liverpool with his latest Instagram update.

It has been an excellent first season so far under Arne Slot for the Reds. They are six points clear at the top of the Premier League table, and have cruised through the Champions League group phase.

They have managed to do that despite having to deal with injury issues to a number of players over the course of the campaign.

Now though it seems one of those Liverpool have had to do without for some time is closing in on a return to action.

Virgil van Dijk shows impending Liverpool return for Joe Gomez

One player Slot has been unable to call upon for some time now is Joe Gomez, who has not featured since suffering a hamstring injury in the win over West Ham in the final game of 2024.

But after reports emerged on Tuesday (28 January) that the Liverpool defender is back in training (The Independent), Van Dijk now appears to have confirmed that himself.

Taking to his Instagram story, the Reds captain posted a picture of himself heading out onto the training pitches alongside Gomez and Andy Robertson, with all three looking set to take part in the session.

Football Insider Verdict

It will be a boost for the club to have Gomez taking these steps towards a return to action, given the crucial stage of the season we are approaching.

Liverpool fans have shown concern about their depth in defence in recent weeks, and this will go some way to easing those issues.

Football Insider also understands Gomez was the subject of interest from elsewhere in the summer, so how he fares in the coming months could have an intriguing impact on his future at Anfield.

In other news, Liverpool have been tipped to hold fresh talks over the future of Harvey Elliott.
