‘Walking disaster’ – Rangers fans outraged by ‘disgrace of a football player’ vs Braga
Danny Rohl was partly to blame as Rangers threw away their first Europa League victory of the season against Braga.
James Tavernier remains linked with a Rangers exit, but it was the captain who opened the scoring at Ibrox on Thursday, 27 November, firing home from the penalty spot on the stroke of half-time.
Despite facing plenty of criticism, Jack Butland was absolutely key against Braga, making multiple saves before inevitably conceding a Gabri Martinez equaliser to 10 men after Rodrigo Zalazar was sent off.
However, in the closing stages, the playing field was evened up when Mohamed Diomande also saw red for an elbow, and while the referee’s harshness has been debated, it was another sending-off in Europe.
Mohamed Diomande sent off again in the Europa League
Although one supporter was quick to pass blame to the manager for not hooking Diomande on a yellow card, many other fans have aimed their anger at the 24-year-old instead.
As well as being labelled a “walking disaster”, another went as far as to label him a “disgrace of a football player”, and a third predicted the red card after his foolish caution in the first half.
- @C33355555: “Diomande is a disgrace of a football player. Nowhere near good enough.”
- @WillSharp222: “Taking Barron off was a predictably dreadful decision by Rohl. Inexcusable.”
- @m6134n: “Seen this coming from HT. How we never made a change is beyond me. The yellow stifled his game.”
Emotions are riding high at Ibrox this season, and after throwing away the chance for the Gers’ first win in Europe, fans clearly see Diomande as the scapegoat for a reckless decision in added time.
Rangers fans want players to follow Patrick Stewart and Kevin Thelwell
Rangers parted ways with Patrick Stewart and Kevin Thelwell following months of fan fury and backlash at Ibrox, but there are still so many issues to address for the Light Blues.
Multiple players, such as Nasser Djiga, Thelo Aasgaard, and Max Aarons, are all failing to adapt in Scotland, and fans are ready to sell them or send them back to their respective clubs in January.
A lot has been made about the Gers’ failures in recent transfer windows, and supporters cannot wait for some better investments to be made once the January window rolls around.
Fans may have to wait until the summer, and by then, it might have become clearer what the club have planned for Diomande’s future.
