Sources: Watford and Brighton race Fulham to sign Grimes as Swansea asking price revealed

Watford and Brighton have joined Fulham in the race to sign Swansea City captain Matt Grimes, Football Insider has learned.

The southern trio are all keeping close tabs on the midfielder, 26, who is expected to leave the Liberty Stadium this summer with only one year left on his contract.

A recruitment source has told Football Insider that Premier League duo Watford and Brighton have both made enquiries for Grimes.

He could be available for just £1.5million due to his contract situation.

Swansea are currently without a manager following Steve Cooper’s departure earlier this month.

Football Insider revealed yesterday (27th July) that they have approached MK Dons boss Russell Martin regarding the vacant post.

Grimes was part of the bedrock of Cooper’s side in 2020-21 and missed just one match as the Swans narrowly missed out on promotion via the play-offs.

The former England Under-21 international joined Swansea in 2015 and has played over 150 times for the Welsh side.

He began his career with Exeter City and won their Player of the Season Award in only his second season as a professional in 2014-15.

Grimes has also spent time on loan with Blackburn Rovers and Leeds United in the Championship and Northampton Town in League Two.

His Premier League suitors Brighton are expected to soon lose centre-back talisman Ben White to Arsenal.

Top-flight new boys Watford are also a centre-back down after Ben Wilmot left for Stoke City earlier in the window.

Joachim Anderson meanwhile, who featured 31 times at centre-half for Fulham last term, returned to Lyon at the end of his loan spell.
