‘We need to do this now’ – Tottenham next big Premier League team to be sold
Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy will have had an eye on a potential sale this summer with the transfer business he has conducted.
That is according to football finance expert Dan Plumley, who told Football Insider exclusively that the Champions League would be a “huge factor” when Spurs are eventually sold.
Tottenham have signed Xavi Simons, adding the former PSG man to their side as they look to avoid another calamitous season.
Winning the Europa League final was the saving grace for Spurs, although it was not enough to keep Ange Postecoglou in the job, as the North London side slumped to a 17th-placed finish.
Simons, alongside Mohammed Kudus and Mathys Tel, has headlined a busy summer as Tottenham look to re-establish themselves among the Premier League’s elite.
But the desire to be mixing it with the big boys has not been Levy’s only motivation for such heavy investment this summer.

Qatari investors have been linked with purchasing a stake in Tottenham, and the North London side have long been touted for a sale.
Speaking to Football Insider exclusively, Plumley explained that Levy was potentially more keen than ever to sell the side that he has been chairman of for 24 years.
He said: “Spurs have openly been for sale now for a number of years. It’s the next big club to be sold in English football, probably.
“It’s always been there, and sometimes you need to push on and invest to be able to make it attractive.
“I do think the Champions League within that is a huge factor, and a new manager as well.
“And again, they’ve almost got to do it this summer. That was part of what was happening in the background.
“Financially, they are absolutely fine to go and spend that money, so I think it’s always been that case with Spurs of do they want to spend? Rather than, can they?
“This is a year where they’ve gone, we need to do this now, and this is how we’re going to approach it.”

Since their meeting in the Europa League final on 21 May, Man United and Tottenham have endured contrasting fates.
Despite winning that match, Spurs decided to twist from their manager, whereas the Red Devils chose to stick.
And since then, the North London side have gone from strength to strength both on and off the pitch, whilst United are flailing and hit a new low when they were dumped out of the Carabao Cup by Grimsby.
Following that loss, Tottenham have shown an interest in taking Kobbie Mainoo on loan.
The England international was the best player on the pitch for United in their loss to League Two opposition, but without guarantees of regular playing time, he is keen to depart his boyhood club temporarily.
