We need to have a serious conversation about Tino Livramento’s future after Newcastle latest

Newcastle United supporters are rightly concerned after the latest blow to an already injury-prone Tino Livramento at St James’ Park.

After limping off against Bournemouth on Saturday, 10 January, Livramento could miss as many as 15 games, meaning that Eddie Howe will be without yet another defender.

Howe is already without Dan Burn, Emil Krafth, Fabian Schar, and Jamaal Lascelles, with the Magpies really facing the pressures of an ever-growing treatment list up north.

The newest injury will not come as a surprise to those at St James’ Park, however, having already missed 13 games due to a knee injury, but it will be a huge concern for the Premier League club.

Tino Livramento suffers yet another crushing blow

It is yet another crushing blow for a player who continues to struggle with fitness. He tore his cruciate ligament during his Southampton days, seeing him miss 64 games in 2021/22.

Despite his issues on the pitch, he is one of the most sought-after defenders in the entirety of the Premier League, going from strength to strength since his arrival from the Saints in 2023.

Arsenal are the latest team to join the race for Livramento, with Chelsea and Man City also credited with interest in the 23-year-old, who is earning more England caps as he develops.

Having signed him for £30million, the Magpies could double their money on the talented full-back, and there should be a very serious conversation over whether the club cashes in or not.

Newcastle could consider selling Livramento due to his injury issues

There is no doubt that Livramento is one of the most talented full-backs in the Premier League, even world football, for that matter, but Howe cannot depend on him to stay fit.

He also missed 11 games with an ankle injury during the 2023/24 campaign, and if Newcastle can get north of £60million for his signature, it might be a difficult offer to turn down.

If the Magpies are to continuously challenge for the Premier League and also in Europe, it is vital that Howe has players available who can stay out of the treatment room.

With that amount of money possibly being made from one player, Newcastle could sign two new right-backs, both of whom are injury-free and can make a huge difference on the pitch.

Of course, it would be a massively difficult decision, and not one taken lightly, but it would certainly be something to think about, with several teams circling for his signature.
