Wesley Fofana responds to Fabrizio Romano’s Chelsea transfer update as ‘talks advance’
Wesley Fofana responded as fresh details emerged regarding Chelsea’s pursuit of AC Milan goalkeeper Mike Maignan.
Chelsea ended the 2024/25 season on a high, securing Champions League qualification and lifting the Europa Conference League, marking a strong turnaround under Enzo Maresca.
Despite Maresca facing sack pressure in the weeks leading up to the end of the season, he delivered silverware and guided the side back to the Champions League.
However, frustrations simmered throughout the campaign. Chelsea fans criticised Maresca’s persistence with Robert Sanchez in goal. The Spaniard drew criticism from supporters after a string of costly mistakes, ultimately finishing the season with the most errors leading to goals in the Premier League with five in total.
With growing concern over the reliability of their goalkeeping department, Chelsea now appear to be taking decisive action with the club’s renewed push to sign Maignan from AC Milan.

Wesley Fofana reacts as Chelsea submit offer for Mike Maignan
Fabrizio Romano revealed on Instagram that Chelsea have officially submitted a bid to AC Milan for Maignan worth €15 million (£12.6m), with the decision now in the hands of the Italian club.
Romano added that Chelsea are pushing for a “final answer” by Tuesday (10 June), as the transfer window will temporarily pause due to the start of the Club World Cup.
French international and Chelsea defender Fofana appeared to support the club’s pursuit, as he was spotted liking the update on Instagram.
Reports indicate that Maignan is open to the move to Chelsea and has already informed Milan of his desire to join the Blues this summer. With just 12 months left on his current deal and no intention of extending, the 29-year-old’s exit is looking increasingly likely.

Chelsea to consider Wesley Fofana sale amid injury concerns
Despite backing the move for Maignan, Fofana may not be playing alongside him for long, as fresh reports continue to link the defender with a summer exit.
Football Insider revealed Chelsea are prepared to listen to offers for Fofana, with multiple Saudi Pro League clubs expressing interest in the 24-year-old.
It follows another frustrating, injury-hit campaign for the Frenchman, who made just 14 appearances in all competitions. Having signed for £75 million, patience among fans has worn thin, and many Chelsea supporters now believe it’s time for the club to cash in on Fofana.
With the Blues likely to move for a new centre-back this summer, Fofana’s future remains uncertain, especially if a significant offer arrives that could help fund further squad reinforcements.
