Wesley has played last game for Aston Villa after confirmed news – Phillips

Kevin Phillips is adamant Wesley has played his last game for Aston Villa after completing a loan move to Club Brugge.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Sunderland and England striker claimed “it hasn’t worked out” for the 24-year-old since his £22.5million move to Villa Park.

The Midlands club confirmed on Saturday (28th August) that the striker had re-joined Club Brugge on a season-long loan deal.

Wesley has struggled for game time since his return from an anterior cruciate ligament injury in April.

He has three years remaining on his contract at Villa Park.

Phillips believes it is best for all parties if Wesley moves on given that Dean Smith now has Danny Ings, Ollie Watkins and Keinan Davis in his ranks.

“I think Wesley has probably played his last game for Villa,” he told Football Insider‘s Dylan Childs.

“Let’s be honest, it just hasn’t really worked out and with Ings, Watkins and Davis he’s not going to get many opportunities. It’s time to move him on.

“If they get him off the wage bill they might be able to bring somebody else in before the window shuts or maybe save the money and use it in January.

“It would be sensible for all concerned if he left.”
