West Brom in late move to sign Wolves star Dexter Lembikisa – sources
West Brom made a last-gasp move to sign Wolves defender Dexter Lembikisa before Friday’s transfer deadline, sources have told Football Insider.
The 20-year-old has fallen down the pecking order at Molineux and West Brom got in contact with their Midlands rivals about agreeing a loan for the season.
Lembikisa spent a spell on loan at Hearts in the second half of last season, where he made 18 appearances and established himself as a key player in their side.
But he is not expected to play a part in Gary O’Neil’s first-team plans following his return to Wolves and could be allowed to move before the 11pm deadline.
West Brom are in the market for a new right-back to provide competition for Darnell Furlong, with Lembikisa’s ability to play across the backline viewed as a valuable string to his bow.
Financial issues at The Hawthorns have restricted their spending ability this summer, making a season-long loan deal a suitable option for both clubs.
West Brom target loan move for Wolves defender Dexter Lembikisa
Lembikisa joined Wolves’ academy setup at the age of 13 and has progressed through the ranks into the first team.
However, he has made just four senior appearances for his boyhood club.
Loan spells at both Rotherham United and Hearts have allowed him to hone his skills in the senior game, and he could now be allowed to leave on a temporary deal again.
The defender has also earned international recognition for his displays while out on loan, earning 10 caps for Jamaica since his first call-up in March 2023.
He was most recently included in their first-team squad and made two appearances during their Copa America campaign in the USA.
Those performances both at club and international level have sparked an interest from West Brom, who remain keen to strengthen their squad before the transfer window closes.

Carlos Corberan’s side lost key defenders Conor Townsend and Cedric Kipre on free transfers earlier this summer and remain keen to bolster their options.
Lembikisa’s potential availability on loan has put the Championship club on alert and the proximity to his current club would prove beneficial for the defender.
In other news, a Man City sensation is in talks to join a Championship club on loan.
