West Brom next manager: Darren Moore now odds-on favourite amid surprise Wayne Rooney update

Darren Moore has now emerged as the odds-on favourite to take over at West Brom, alongside James Morrison.

The Baggies sacked Eric Ramsay earlier this week, with the manager not winning one of his nine matches in charge.

As a result, Moore has emerged as a potential candidate, in what would be a shock return to The Hawthorns for the 51-year-old.

Oddschecker on 26 February has now confirmed that Moore is now 5/6 to take over at West Brom at one bookmaker, making him the joint-favourite alongside Morrison.

Darren Moore has struggled since leaving West Brom

Moore was surprisingly sacked by the Baggies in 2019, despite him having the club in the Championship playoffs.

Despite going on to achieve promising campaigns at Doncaster and Sheffield Wednesday, leading the latter to promotion to the Championship, his following jobs weren’t as successful.

At Huddersfield Town, he lasted just 23 matches, winning three, before he was sacked in 2024.

Then, at Port Vale, while he did lead them back into League One, he was sacked in December 2025, with the club 10 points from safety.

Therefore, given his struggles in relegation battles at his recent clubs, it remains to be seen if Moore can bring West Brom away from the drop zone this season if he is appointed.

Odds continue to fall for Wayne Rooney

Another candidate who has seen his odds fall in recent days is Wayne Rooney.

The former Man United manager has not returned to the dugout since he was let go from Plymouth Argyle in 2024.

Much of this is due to his poor record as a manager, failing at both Birmingham City and the Pilgrims.

Nevertheless, Rooney was a surprising outsider with one UK bookie upon Ramsay’s sacking, at 25/1 odds.

However, these have now suddenly fallen to 20/1, making him the eighth favourite for the role.

While it is still unlikely that he will be in The Hawthorns dugout anytime soon, for many West Brom fans, this will be too close for comfort, with the 40-year-old struggling time after time in the second tier.

However, it remains to be seen who the Baggies choose to appoint as they look to avoid an embarrassing relegation to League One this season.
