West Brom next manager: Odds slashed on Slaven Bilic return after James Morrison latest

Championship strugglers West Brom could be set to seek out a surprise return for former boss Slaven Bilic as they weigh up James Morrison’s future as interim manager.

West Brom are in grave danger of being relegated from the Championship this season after two failed managerial tenures were ended in the last two months.

Ryan Mason was handed the reins at the Hawthorns at the start of the season before being relieved of his duties in early January and replaced by Eric Ramsay.

Ramsay lasted just 44 days as their manager, after failing to win any of his nine games in charge, with club legend Morrison now in charge as they sit 21st in the second-tier.

Sources have told Football Insider that Darren Moore would accept the Baggies job, but it is another ex-boss who could well take over soon after these latest developments.

Slaven Bilic now the clear second favourite to be West Brom’s next manager

Bilic has been out of work since leaving Saudi Pro League side Al-Fateh in August 2024, while he last managed an English team in March 2023, when he was sacked by Watford.

The 57-year-old is best known on these shores for his two-year stint as West Ham manager between 2015 and 2017, but he also guided West Brom to promotion from the Championship in 2020.

He was relieved of his Baggies duties in December of the same year after a poor start to life back in the Premier League, but just over five years on, he could well make a return.

One of the UK’s leading bookmakers has slashed Bilic’s odds in the running to be West Brom’s next permanent manager from 8/1 to 6/4, meaning he is now the clear second favourite behind Moore.

Who else is in the running to be the next Baggies boss?

Moore is still the bookies’ leading contender to be the next West Brom manager, at odds of 5/4, even though he was previously priced as short as 1/2.

Bilic has now moved ahead of interim boss Morrison in the running, who is the third favourite to land a permanent gig at odds 5/2.

Morrison’s chances of becoming the full-time Baggies manager would surely have been harmed by his side’s 2-1 loss to fellow relegation strugglers Oxford United on Saturday.

Other contenders, according to the bookies, include Tony Mowbray (12/1), Sean Dyche (16/1), Will Still (20/1) and Carlos Corberan (25/1).
